The 2013 Ted Simmons Junior Medal was awarded to two teams, the Easts G14A and Heffron Hawks U18s, who both demonstrated the most outstanding excellence and sporting conduct in an ESFA competition.
The Heffron Hawks U18s were a group of friends all of whom were of the age of 17 or under. The team competed in the Boys Under 18 competition without a Coach. The players formally trained themselves, with adults providing minimal management supervision.
Whilst the team started the season slowly, they continued to improve as the season progressed and finished third on goal difference. The team had a difficult 2 – 1 loss in the Finals but continued to show strong spirit as they represented their Club and the Association in the Under 17s division of the Champion of Champions tournament.
The Easts G14As excelled in their division, winning the League and Grand Final double playing a skillful passing style of football.
With a small squad of just 12 players, the teamwork amongst the players ensured they played exemplary football. The G14As qualified for the Champion of Champions only to lose to the eventual winners in the early stages of the competition.
Both teams demonstrated the excellence and conduct that the Ted Simmons Junior Medal recognises.
