Football Legends to Kick Epilepsy Out Of The Park…

Celebrity Football Charity Challenge supports Epilepsy Action Australia

A slew of soccer stars, ex-Socceroos and other football legends will join forces in a unique celebrity ‘fun-raiser’ on Saturday afternoon 6 September.

The Celebrity Football Charity Challenge is a “pro-am” style fundraising match at Hensley Athletic Field, Eastgardens, to be played at 5.30pm ahead of the Eastern Suburbs’ men’s senior first division Grand Final. A slew of stars will join forces to kick a goal in the fight against epilepsy.

Among the star players and coaches already confirmed are
John Kosmina,Željko Kalac, Nick Rizzo, Brett Emerton, Steve Corica and Terry McFlynn with more big name players to be announced shortly!

Patron of the event is Epilepsy Australia Ambassador – ‘Captain Socceroo’ himself – PAUL WADE.  Wade was Socceroo Captain 1990 – 1996 with an extraordinary 118 caps (and 345 NSL Games) to his name. He also hosted the original iconic kids’ football TV show Captain Socceroo.  An inspirational speaker, he continues to live with epilepsy and work for community awareness.

Supported by Eastern Suburbs Football Association (ESFA) in association with their community partner Sydney FC, the match will combine celebrity players with sponsored amateurs – all raising funds for the cause. The general public can support the event by sponsoring a player, donating directly online at www.charityfootball.com.au or on the day at the match.

ESFA president Raff  Del Vecchio said that participants would enjoy not just the ‘priceless’ experience of meeting and playing with football legends, but will take home a swag of commemorative souvenirs including their full kit, autographed team photos and more.

“Each participating player has a fundraising minimum target of $1500 – but we are confident that well-supported, great networking, enthusiastic participants will raise well above that figure.”

Souvenirs, memorabilia and more will be available for purchase on the day along with raffles, Mr Soccer kids carnival activities, and more.  Details of star players taking part will be announced regularly on-line.

Date: Saturday 6th September   Kickoff:  5:30 pm    Entry:  Free
