Weekend Update 2nd and 3rd May, 2015

We find ourselves once again with grey skies overhead and the continual running tap from the skies!

We have already had St. Johns and The Square at Sydney University, Reg Bartley and Turruwul closed for the weekend. We expect many Councils will follow this lead throughout the Eastern Suburbs, leaving us with more wet weather reschedules. We will keep all our wet weather notifications with regard to ground closures up to date across the weekend. Remember, the Councils have the first right to close the ground, then the ground hirer, then the referees. We have a long season ahead of us and while we all enjoy our football fix, let it not be at the expense of grounds being destroyed for future play.

We would like to remind those who will still be playing this weekend (after all, we still have games at Hensley Athletic Field and David Phillips Synthetic, though even DPS cannot survive the full fury of a hail storm! Hope you all saw the footage on our Facebook page ), of the importance of player ID checks and correct use of team sheets. If you do not check the IDs and choose to play, any incidents that may occur during or post match as to alleged ‘ring-ins’ may not be considered. It is not the referees responsibility to check ID.  Referees can acknowledge ID checks are made and note on team sheets should there be matters arising. It is ESFA that will be left with the decision making process of Incidents reported.

Once again we have Clubs still not using the correct team sheet. Please ensure your teams are aware of the 2015 Team Sheet. We may begin to name and shame! RTO’s should be aware the team sheets are required to be given to the referee at least five minutes before kick off with all data completed ie player’s name, FFA number and Shirt number. If the player did not play, that also requires marking on the team sheet.

So, while we are trying to stop the rain and the changes that reign with it, we hope that those who do get to play, do so in the spirit of the game.

Hensley Athletic Field is hosting Dunbar Day this weekend, with Dunbar Rovers State League taking on UNSW State League. 20s at 1:00pm and Firsts at 3:00pm. It's the 'other' duel in the east and we wish them both well. Local Competition AAM Championship Dunbar v Coogee United will follow at 5:00pm for Reserves and 7:00pm for Firsts. If we feel the loss of not playing over the weekend, we may at least witness some great football. Canteen facilities and free entrance!

We also wish all our Clubs the very best in their FNSW State Cup campaigns over this coming weekend. Here's the table of events as at 3:00pm 1st May, 2015 however may be subject to change should grounds close (most already have).
