Dunbar Rovers FC Win State Cup AAW Final!

Published: 14/07/2015 8:49:00 AM
Sunday 12th July, 2015 was history making for Eastern Suburbs football when Dunbar Rovers FC AAW Championship traveled to a cold, windy Valentine's Sports Park.

Arriving early for warm up, kick off was delayed from 2:00pm to 4:00pm but this did not faze the team or it's myriad of spectators and supporters.

We asked the Cup winning coach, David (Mini) Buck for his take on the match and here's what he had to say -

''Dunbar Rovers AA Ladies Championship team traveled to Valentine Sports Park the home of Football NSW on Sunday 12th July 2015, to play in the final of the State Cup in an attempt to create history for Eastern Suburbs football to become the first All Age Ladies or Men's team to bring the State Cup to the East.
Dunbar's opposition on the day was Wakehurst FC from the Manly & Waringah competition.  Dunbar started the game very well and their pressure paid off on the 20 minute mark when a long range shot from Belinda Seers found the top of the net.  Dunbar continued to push but always found Wakehurst a challenge with their pace on the break but the pressure again paid off after about 30 minutes with a goal again from distance from Margret Thorarinsdottir, so it was 2-0 at half time to Dunbar.
After a very cold 15 minute half time interval the teams again took the pitch and once again Dunbar continued to push and got a 3rd goal from Jana Novakova after a great move down the left.  Wakehurst in the 70th minute pulled one back after a clearance from a corner was clinically dispatched, 3-1.  Wakehurst for the next 10 minutes pushed hard but Dunbar held out and got a chance with a free kick on the edge of the Wakehurst box, Belinda Seers stepped up and with an excellent free-kick found the top left hand corner of the net and a final score line of 4-1 to Dunbar Rovers FC.
Dunbar Rovers FC would like to thank ESFA for ensuring all games were deferred during this period to allow Dunbar to focus on their run and become State Cup Champions.''

ESFA on behalf of the Eastern Suburbs Football community congratulate Dunbar FC ladies for their win and believes the strength of women's football in the East is increasing each season.

Here's some photos for all to share in this brilliant achievement!
