Sydney FC Match Day Experience - Saturday 24th October, 2015
With 40539 people in attendance at the Sydney derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, there were a few younger faces that could not contain their excitement at being at Allianz Stadium.
Sydney FC kindly requested ESFA to supply kids for the Match Day Experience. An honour to do so at such a large event. A reward from Sydney FC for the continuing relationship with ESFA and its general football community.
While the game itself was not the prettiest to watch with both teams instrumental in ensuring no one would have the dominance, our ESFA kids knew every chant emanating from The Cove and the smiles on their faces was worth the ticket!
It all began with our youngsters from Maroubra United FC walking out with the Western Sydney Wanderers. A rare moment for any child and though the kids were cheering for the other Sydney team, the respect shown by them to the players of Western Sydney Wanderers, belied their tender age. They were thrilled to be standing in front of so many people and we were proud to see them.
Of course our players from Queens Park had quite an experience in the role of ball kids. Being out on the turf of Allianz was a great pleasure for them all and they didn’t take their eyes off the ball once (all puns intended!). We thank them for their contribution to the day.
Our youngsters from Easts got to actually play on the turf by being part of the half time entertainment with their Mini Roos football feats. Their faces told the story as much as their skill. Having sat behind them in the stands, this reporter may honestly say that no one cheers louder for Sydney FC than the kids from Easts!
Pagewood Botany FC provided some of our older juniors (14-15s) to carry the Hyundai half time mat and sit on the turf and digest the feeling of being in front of such a huge crowd during half time when by no means there was any lull in the atmosphere. Who knows, maybe some of these kids will be playing there one day!
We thank Sydney FC for the experience everyone for representing their Clubs and the Association with such professionalism and excitement and we hope that we will be able to repeat the exhilaration of participation in match days with more of our kids involved in the future.
Of course the last minute winning goal from Sydney FC made the whole event worthwhile for our cheering ESFA kids. Sydney after all, is sky blue!
The look on the kids’ faces paints a picture far greater than words could ever express.
