A Crew Of Three Female Referees Appointed to Junior Boys Games

Published: 3/06/2016 11:03:00 AM

We are all aware of the importance of match officials to our competition.

This season we have held three courses with a fourth offered to Clubs with the unfortunate result of no participants in the fourth course. Referee numbers are down from previous seasons.

It is not however all unfavourable when it comes to the referees we are producing for the future. Our junior competition is enjoying the fruits of the labour of all involved in running courses and referee education.

On Saturday 21st May, 2016 ESFA appointed a crew of three female referees to two boys fixtures at Rowland Park. This was a first for ESFA Referees Branch and a credit to the up and coming female referees within the ESFA Referees Branch.

The referees were overseen by the Referees Coordinator and Branch Chairman, Arthur Kringas with pride and were impressed by their skill level and professionalism shown. The girls received some extremely positive feedback and respect from teams, the Branch as well as ESFA President Sean Fenton who caught up with the referees on the day.

We encourage all our junior referees to continue with their refereeing and attend Branch Meetings for further technical sessions and practical advice.  We look forward to the day we are able to appoint three senior female referees to all womens competition grand finals.

We think perhaps these three referees have that potential.

Congratulations to Lauren Ottaviano, Gabrielle McAlpine and Holly Duncan for leading the way.

If you wish to become a referee, please email for further information.
