ESFA Mens Cup Grand Final 2016!

Published: 29/07/2016 2:12:00 PM

It was the battle of the beaches on Wednesday 27th July, 2016 when 2015 Champions of Champions winners Coogee United AAM Championship took on 2015 ESFA Cup winners Maroubra United AAM Championship in the ESFA Mens Cup final.

It had all the promise on paper of being brilliant football and it did not disappoint the vocal crowd.

Maroubra United scored two quick goals which woke the determined Coogee United into action.

With a penalty awarded to Maroubra with the score 2-1, the battle became harder when the penalty was made, moving the to score 3-1. This is never going to prevent a disciplined team like Coogee United to not move forward, however with the final whistle blown and the score 4-2 at the 90th minute, an extremely determined and jubilant Maroubra United, were able to celebrate back to back victories in the ESFA Mens Cup Final. A feat only achieved before by Glebe Wanderers and Barnstoneworth United.

No one has ever had three in a row, so let’s see what 2017 brings.

With both Coogee United and Maroubra United hoping to have a top four finish in the First Grade League, these two teams may yet meet again!

Nothing to see here folks, except some amplified football to come!

Congratulations to Jimmy and Coogee United (and their new mascot!) for securing a spot in the ESFA Mens Cup Grand Final.

To the victors JD and Maroubra United, an excellent achievement to become back to back ESFA Mens Cup Champions. Kudos!
