Saturday 11th February and Sunday 12th February, 2017 ESFA Referees Branch had 31 eager students sitting our second Level 4 Course for Season 2017 and become FFA accredited referees.
With temperatures topping all records, we would like to thank the group of 31 for their cooperation, particularly on Saturday with 4 ½ hours of theory only, with not a flag or whistle in sight! Hot weather did not allow us to take to the fields for any practical components.
Our dedicated instructors Jack Bell, John Garcia and Kirsty Clee, kept the attention of the students on both days, ensuring their knowledge and application of the Laws of The Game was understood.
We can honestly attest that the new referees certainly know how to effectively use their whistles (loudly!), use of the flag as assistant referees and when yellow and red cards should be shown.
We hope our greater football community will show our new referees the respect and encouragement they deserve. Not everyone is willing to be the team of three and we thank them for their dedication and trust they will continue their education throughout this season, through videos, branch meetings and assessments.
Thank you to all the students for their commitment to task and their entertaining humour to keep the days flowing smoothly.
With one more referee course to be held this weekend, we hope the next class of students are equally enthusiastic. With our final course already reached its registration capacity, should you wish to become a referee please compete an Expression of Interest and should another course be held in 2017, we will contact you directly.
