2017 Summary of Competitions

We hope everyone is enjoying their football in 2017!

Below is a summary of all 2017 ESFA competitions.


Junior Competitions

G12/1, G14/1, G16, G18, U12/4, U14/2, U15, U16/1, U18 - (5/6 teams)

-         15 rounds

-         2-week finals

-         Scheduled Pennant Elimination Final: 5th v 6th    

G12/2, G14/2, U12/1, U12/2, U12/3, U13/1, U13/2, U14/1, U16/2 - (7/8 teams)

-         14 rounds

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

-         Scheduled Pennant Elimination Finals:  5th – 8th

No Games

-         School holidays: 8/9 April, 1/2 and 8/9 July

-         Easter: 15/16 April

Junior Wet Weather Weekend

-         Queen’s Birthday: 10/11 June

*Junior Grand Finals to be scheduled 26/27 August – Time and Venue TBC

*Pennant Elimination Finals (5th – 8th placed teams) scheduled the same weeks as the top 4 finals, where an opposition is available (excludes 5 team competitions). We will endeavour to finalise Pennant finals before 26th August.



Senior Competitions

O35/1 - (5/6 teams)

-         20 rounds

-         No wet weather weekend

-         2-week finals (Grand Final to be scheduled Friday 8th September - TBC)

O35/2 - (7/8 teams)

-         18 rounds (14 rounds followed by 4 seeded rounds: 1st –  4th and 5th –  8th)

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

AAM1, AAM2, AAM3, AAM4, AAM7 (Sat), AAW3 -  (9/10 teams)

-         18 rounds (play each team twice)

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

 AAM3 (Sat), AAM5 (Sat), AAM5, AAM6, AAM7, AAM8, AAW4, O45
 - (11/12 teams - excluding Men’s Championship)

-         18 rounds (play same fixtures as rounds 1-7 twice)

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

-         11-team competitions, each team will have 2 byes, with multiple byes in some rounds

 Men’s Championship - (11 teams)

-         22 rounds (play each team twice)

-         Round 21: Mid-week round scheduled throughout May

-         Round 22: Doubleheader 10 and 12 June (Queens Birthday long weekend)

-         No wet weather weekend

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

-         Grand Final to be scheduled on 9 September at Hensley

AAW 01/02 - (16 teams)

-         18 rounds (7 rounds in AAW 01/02 and 11 rounds in either AAW1 or AAW2)

-         Clubs with multiple teams in AAW 01/02 cannot share players from other teams within the first 7 rounds

-         Top 4 teams from both AAW 01/02 Groups form AAW1

-         Bottom 4 teams from each AAW 01/02 Group form AAW2

-         3-week finals (may be reduced to 2 weeks if needed due to washouts)

-         All round 7 games must be finalised by 28 May


Senior Wet Weather Weekends

-         27/28 May: AAW01/02

-         1/2 July: O35/2

-         8/9 July: AAM1, AAM2, AAM5 (Sat), AAW3

-         15/16 July: AAM3, AAM4, AAM7 (Sat), AAW4

-         22/23 July: AAM3 (Sat), AAM5, AAM7, AAM8,

-         12/13 August: AAM6, O45

*Senior Grand Finals to be scheduled 2/3 or 9/10 September

  Time and Venue TBC


Finals Formats

2 weeks

-         Week 1, Semi Finals: SF1: 1v4, SF2: 2v3

-         Week 2, Grand Final: Winners of SF1 and SF2

3 weeks

-         Week 1, Semi Finals: 1v2 (Major), 3v4 (Minor)

-         Week 2, Preliminary Final: Loser of Major v Winner of Minor

-         Week 3, Grand Final: Winner of Major v Winner of Prelim Final

Finals series may be reduced due to wet weather; this may include progressing the highest ranked team from a washed out Final to the next stage if an adequate field in the Eastern Suburbs is not available to reschedule at a reasonable time and date.
