Ted Simmons is an ESFA Life Member, former President of ESFA from 1973 to 1982, an Order of Australia Medal recipient and was an excellent referee and assessor. Ted is also a legend around the parks of ESFA.
Each season, in recognition of one of the Eastern Suburbs’ greatest servants of the game, ESFA awards the Ted Simmons Junior Football Medal at their Annual General Meeting to a player, coach or team who has displayed the most outstanding excellence, development or example of sporting conduct in ESFA competition.
In 2018 nominations were called prior to the AGM. With none received, there was no medal presented. However, the Board of ESFA acknowledged the importance of this medal and once again called for nominations post AGM.
On April 6th 2019 on winter season commencement day, the General Manager of ESFA Aaron Dibdin, along with Ted Simmons OAM, awarded the 2018 Ted Simmons Junior Football Medal to 2018 Pagewood U13A and U13B were joint recipients (as they played and trained as a squad allowing within ESFA Competition Rules in regards to players playing up – no child played more than the allowed requirements) for showing the qualities required to demonstrate their sportsmanship and excellence.
The boys have mostly been together since they were in the MiniRoos, training twice a week for many years and since stepping into competitive football the A team have done the double 2 years in a row by winning both the Grand Final and the League. The U13B won their Division 2 Grand Final. The boys show immense dedication to the game and commitment overall to the community. Many of the boys also contribute to Pagewood and help with their MiniRoos match setups and as game leaders/referees.
Congratulations to Pagewood U13A/Bs as the recipients of the 2018 Ted Simmons Junior Football Medal.
