WPL Match of the Round – Game Week 2

Last weekend saw a lull in fixtures with only one game being played in the Women’s Premier league. Thankfully for Loko and Dunbar, their fixture this weekend is on Guyama Synthetic so let the battle commence. The last competitive fixture between these clubs occurred on 2nd May last year which saw Loko victorious in a 3-1 win away at the house of Dunbar, Reg Bartley. Both teams have expressed how strong their squads are looking this year, so this match will be a hard one to predict.

ESFA WPL Match of the Round

Lokomotiv Cove FC vs Dunbar Rovers FC
Gunyama
Sunday 10th April
3pm

Here’s what Dunbar Rovers Coach Andres Cortes had to say ahead of the game:

“There is a lot of excitement around the team for the start of the season. The squad is full of quality, and we will be ready to impose our style of football on the opposition. 2022.
We have recruited well in all 3 grades and Dunbar Rovers will be a strong force in all of them.”

Lokomotiv Cove WPL Coach & Vice President of Women’s Football, Sophie Giakoumidis, had this to say:

“We’re excited coming into our second WPL season at our new home ground – Gunyama Synthetic. Having lost a majority of our team to NPL this year, we’ve had to work really hard in the off season to recruit and bond a new team and it has really shown in our undefeated pre-season results.

We’re happy to be in a position where it’s becoming increasingly difficult to decide the starting 11 as every single player presents a high level of skill and strong work ethic.

It will be a very interesting year for all teams competing in WPL as the level of football has increased dramatically this year and I don’t think there will be one stand out team as has been the case historically.”

Good luck to both teams and all others that are still scheduled to play.
