Female Football Week – Match of the Round

ESFA WPL Match of the Round

Game Week 5 – FEMALE FOOTBALL WEEK

Lions FC vs Waverley Old Boys FC

Lions play host to Waverley Old Boys this weekend in the first week of #FemaleFootballWeek. With it being the Lions’ first season in the women’s topflight, they were always going to be tested by the league’s veterans, however their vice-captain says the squad remain extremely positive and keen to face any battle. Waverley Old Boys have secured 6 points from their first 4 games and will be keen to keep their spot in the top three.

Here’s what Lions’ Vice Captain Ramona Spicer had to say about her team:

Born out of Bondi, Lions FC are excited to enter the WPL competition this year. Having recently formed, the team are progressively becoming more cohesive and aim to make their mark this season. “It ain’t over, ‘til it’s over” sums up the Lionesses’ mentality as they persist until the final whistle game in, game out. As the new team on the field, Lions FC are set to kick-off a higher standard this year.

Waverley Old Boys Hannah Bjorn had this to say ahead of the fixture:

The start to this season has been filled with ups and downs, but every game the team is getting better and better. It’s great to have more teams in the premier league this season and we’re excited to be playing Lions for the first time on Sunday!

Good luck to both teams and happy #FemaleFootballWeek
