Game Week 3
After the Easter long weekend break, players will be chomping at the bit for a full round of fixtures this weekend. Our Match of the Round sees Phoenix host Sydney CBD at the House of Paine (fingers crossed for open fields). Last years match up between these squads saw Phoenix rise triumphant in a 3-1 win in Round 2, however after wining the battle, CBD won the war by finishing 5th in the ladder, two spots ahead of Phoenix. Both teams have expressed how confident they are with their squads and are looking forward to stamping their mark on the league.
ESFA MPL Match of the Round
Phoenix FC vs Sydney CBD
Paine Reserve
Saturday 23rd April
FG 3pm | RG 1pm
Here’s what Phoenix had to say ahead of the fixture:
“Last year the games against CBD were bittersweet. We lost with Ressies and Won with Prems in the first encounter. Little did we know the 2nd encounter was the last game we got to play before the 2nd outbreak of covid. This year we are confident and ready to attack this game full on.
Our team this year has a different vibe around it. A change in management has also added a different dynamic. With our Captain Luke Kelly (The Phoenix Andy Reid) looking to really make a mark on the league this year.
Our expectations are to challenge as best we can for the title. We have struggled in recent years but it’s go hard or go home for the Nix.”
Here’s what CBD had to say:
“About the game this weekend, after a strong start away to Coogee we certainly want to build on this with another positive result. We didn’t turn up against Phoenix last season and were well beaten in the end. We know it will be a battle, but I believe the squad has improved and ready for the test.”
Good luck to both teams.
