It’s the final round of the Women’s Premier League this week. Although the league winners, Coogee, was decided a few weeks ago, top four is very much in contention. With Sydney University, Lokomotiv Cove, Maroubra United and Dunbar Rovers all battling out for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spots. Many teams still have catch up games to play so it’s still too soon to predict where everyone will finish.
Sydney University Soccer Football Club vs Easts FC, 3:00PM, Queens Park
Since completing several catch-up games, Sydney have steadily climbed their way up the ladder and into second place. If they can continue their winning momentum, they may be able to pip Loko to runners up of the WPL.
Easts have put in some strong performances against the leagues front runners this year but have had a run of unfavourable results. If they can put out a strong team this weekend, they may be able to end the season on a high.
These clubs have already met twice this season with Sydney taking all six points.
Lokomotiv Cove WPL vs Randwick City, 3:00PM, Alexandria Park
Loko have also had a very positive string of games picking up 10 points in their previous five matches. They are extremely hot on the heels of Sydney being only one point behind and a greater goal difference. A win for Loko and a draw or loss for Sydney will see the Cove jump back into second spot.
Randwick have an opportunity to jump off the bottom of the table this week, with a big three points. If they can perform well in their remaining catch-up games, they will be able to end the season on a high, ready for next year.
Loko picked up all six points in the previous two meetings with these clubs, but anything can happen at the close of the season.
Waverley Old Boys vs Maroubra United, 3:00PM, Waverley Park Synthetic
In the previous two meetings of these clubs, Waverley walked away with four points in two impressive performances. Since then, Maroubra have had more success picking up multiple wins, keeping them in the top half of the table.
Waverley play host this weekend and with the home advantage, they could repeat their previous success against a strong Maroubra outfit.
Maroubra will need to bite back with a win this weekend to remain in the top four, as Dunbar are only one win away.
Coogee United vs Dunbar Rovers, 3:00PM, Heffron Park
Some might call this fixture a classic, with both teams being the only league winners in recent years. Both teams recruited well in pre-season and have shown some dominant performances. Although Coogee have already won the league, they will want to continue their winning streak and complete the season undefeated.
Dunbar will be desperate for a win if they want to make finals this year. Being only two points and a better goal difference behind Maroubra. They will be keen to fight for a place for finals and potentially play Coogee for a fourth time this year.
Good luck to all teams.
