Things are heating up in the top four. After a Thursday night win for Sydney Uni, they take up second place on the ladder leading into the penultimate round of games in the WPL. Only a few points separate 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and many teams have multiple catch-up games still to play, it’s hard to say indefinitely who the top four will be.
Maroubra United vs Lokomotiv Cove, 3:00PM, Gunyama Park
Maroubra have had a string of losses and draws having conceded three goals per game in 4/5 of their last games. If they can put in a solid defensive performance tomorrow, they can still be within reach of top two.
Loko have picked up 7 points in their last three games to fill them with confidence leading into this top half of the table clash. After dropping to third following Sydney’s mid-week win, Loko will be keen to take their second spot back this weekend.
The last meeting between these competitors resulted in a thrilling 3-3 draw. With finals approaching, both teams will want a huge win to excel themselves higher up the ladder.
Easts FC vs Dunbar Rovers, 3:00PM, Queens Park
Only three points separates these teams, as well as multiple catch up games collectively. Easts will want to end the season on a high and well away from the bottom of the ladder. With this being only their second year in the top division, they have done well to secure points against league veterans.
Mathematically Dunbar may yet still make the top four with a string of wins in catch-up games and other results going their way. They’ve already demonstrated strong performances against the top four teams, but can they show their fight in these last few weeks.
Randwick City vs Sydney University Soccer Football Club, 3:00PM, Chifley Reserve
Randwick could jump off the bottom of the table with a big win this weekend. With two games still in hand, we may yet see a massive jump for the squad, especially being full of confidence after two recent wins over Easts & Waverley, both currently ahead of them on the ladder.
Sydney will also be full of confidence after their midweek win against fellow front-runners, Maroubra. Another win this weekend will keep them in second spot, with both Loko and Maroubra still applying the pressure.
Coogee United vs Waverley Old Boys
Unfortunately, Waverley have had to forfeit this round meaning Coogee are one step closer to an undefeated season. Waverley now risk being overtaken by Easts and Randwick but will continue to fight in the last few games of the season.
